The Dean of the UMSU Faculty of Law, Dr. Faisal, and the Chairman of the Blangkeujeren Sharia Court, Gayo Lues Aceh T. Swandi SHI MH, signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen the role of the two legal institutions. The signing took place Friday (1/7) in the hall of the Faculty of Law, UMSU.
The signing was marked by the handing over of souvenirs from the leaders of the two institutions. Present Deputy Deans I and III Fahum UMSU Dr. Zainuddin and Atika Rahmi MH.
In addition to the general lecture, there was also a public lecture delivered by the Chairman of the Sharia Court, Blangkeujeren T. Swandi, SHI MH, with the theme of the Existence of the Sharia Court in handling Jinayah. This theme received attention from Fahum students who came from various study programs/concentrations with the emergence of exciting questions.
The Chairman of the Blangkeujeren Sharia Court, Thousand Hills Country, T. Swandi SHI MH admitted that until now his party has continued to educate and enlighten the public about the role of the Sharia Court in Aceh. For example, many cases that the Sharia Court should handle are submitted to the Religious Courts. Likewise, the process of execution of the whip is not widely understood by the public.
It is hoped that the public will better understand the role of the Sharia Court and know the difference between the Sharia Court and the Religious Courts.
T. Swandi SHI MH hopes that with the MoA between his party and UMSU, many UMSU Law Faculty students will take advantage of the practice or service at the Sharia Court.
Regarding the signing of the MoA between the UMSU Law Faculty and the Chairman of the Sharia Court, the Dean of the UMSU Law Faculty, Dr. Faisal, said according to the tri dharma of higher education, the cooperation between the law faculty and other legal institutions should be further enhanced. In line with the Merdeka Campus, Merdeka Learning (KMMB), law school students will later practice in various legal institutions, one of which is the Sharia Court.
