The Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PPM) appointed UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP as Chairperson of the Committee (OC) of the 49th Muhammadiyah Congress in Medan, which will occur in 2027 in Medan City.
The determination of UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP to be the Chairperson of the Congress Committee (OC) was conveyed by PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Dr. Agung Danarto at a consolidation meeting between PP Muhammadiyah, PP Aisyiyah, PWM, and PWM North Sumatra, as well as delegates from several nearby PDMs and PDAs. The meeting occurred Friday night and Saturday morning (16-17/2) in the hall of the UMSU Rector Building, Jalan Mukhtar Basri Medan.
According to the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Agung Danarto, for the implementation of the Congress, the Chairman of PW Muhammadiyah North Sumatra, Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution MA, will be part of the Central Committee (SC), which prepares the materials for the 49th Congress.
The consolidation meeting of PP Muhammadiyah and PP Aisyiyah with the leaders of PWM, PWA, PDM, and PDA was held to prepare the grand scenario of the implementation of the Congress, which became a major five-year Muhammadiyah event.
Present in Medan at the meeting were three vice chairmen, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendie, who is also the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Prof. Dr. Dadang Kahmad, Dr. Agung Danarto, and Dr. Agus Taufiqurohman. At the same time, PP Aisiyiyah was directly attended by the Chairperson of PP Aisyiyah, Dr. Salmah Orbayinah, and the Secretary General of PPA, Dr. Tri Hastuti. PW Muhammadiyah, led by its chairman, Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution MA, and PW Aisyiyah Chairwoman Dr. Nur Rahmah Amini MAg, were also present. Also present were KSB officers (Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer) from PDM and PDA Medan, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, Binjai, Langkat, and Tebingtinggi.
From the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, and the Vice-Rectors and Faculty Leaders were present.
Commitment of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra
PP Muhammadiyah, on that occasion, received commitments from PWM, PWA, PDM, and PDA regarding the success of the Congress. The Chairman of PWM North Sumatra, Prof. Dr. Hasyimsyah Nasution MA, emphasized North Sumatra’s commitment to be ready to succeed in the Congress.
North Sumatra once hosted the Muhammadiyah Congress in 1939, or about 80 years ago. And the appointment of North Sumatra is, of course, welcomed with gratitude. UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani MAP conveyed the same thing, which expressed UMSU’s readiness to host. For this reason, Agussani invited all elements of Muhammadiyah in North Sumatra to host the 49th Congress with joy and cohesiveness.
Welcoming the 49th Congress, UMSU prepared a new facility, namely an auditorium with a capacity of 6000 seats, which is planned to start the construction of the UMSU Tower and Auditorium in the next two months.
Aisyiyah’s Commitment
Regarding the 49th ‘Aisyiyah Congress, the Chairperson of PP Aisyiyah, Dr. Salmah Orbaiyinah, emphasized that it has become a tradition that where there is a Muhammadiyah Congress, there will be an Aisyiyah Congress. For this reason, PP Aisyiyah also determined that the city of Medan (North Sumatra). However, on that occasion, it was not explained whether PP Aisyiyah would set its own Committee (OC) or make the Muhammadiyah Congress committee as the OC of the Aisyiyah Congress.
Dr. Salmah Orbayinah also received a commitment from PW Aisyiyah, PD Aisyiyah throughout North Sumatra.
After the Muhammadiyah consolidation, it was continued with an expanded consolidation by PP Aisyiyah with Aisyiyah Regional Leaders throughout North Sumatra, which was carried out in a hybrid (Offline and Online) from the UMSU Campus.
Dr. Tri Hartuti explained that Aisyiyah, the largest organization, already has experience carrying out the Congress event. The commitment conveyed by PWA and PDA throughout North Sumatra is very encouraging, and I hope that Aisyiyah North Sumatra can work optimally.
