UMSU held a refreshing or general lecture on Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahaan (AIK), presenting Prof. Agus Purwanto, D.Sc (member of the tarjih and tajdid assembly of PP Muhammadiyah) as a resource person who provided insights related to Islam and Science Technology. It was held on Wednesday (31/1) at the UMSU Auditorium on Muchtar Basri Street No. 3 Medan.
The public lecture was opened directly by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, and attended by 48 lecturers and faculty leaders throughout UMSU. This activity is UMSU’s commitment to add insight and knowledge to lecturers and the academic community so that it can be implemented in mandatory student courses.
“We report to Prof; since 2018, UMSU has provided Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan debriefing to new students through KIAM, and now it is upgraded to Baitul Arqam, and this is certainly our commitment,” said the Rector of UMSU.
He said that UMSU is trying to become an AIK role model to face Muhammadiyah Higher Education, which continues progressing.
“We hope that lecturers can make this material sustainable in the AIK learning process,” said the Rector of UMSU.
In the presentation session, Prof. Agus Purwanto specifically conveyed the urgency of integrating science and Islam for society in this era, especially for UMSU, one of Indonesia’s largest PTMAs.
The integration of science and Islam, in general, understands how human thinking can be connected to concepts in Islam. “Welcome to the future. We are currently in the era of science and technology, which cannot be rejected but must be addressed,” said Prof. Agus.
He also encouraged UMSU lecturers to adopt a different approach to thinking based on the verses of the Qur’,, which is human capital developingelop science.
“In the future, in our curriculum, we need to apply fisafata to think critically and apply AIK according to the discipline of science, not made equally, so that is what makes UMSU different from other universities,” said Prof. Agus.
After listening to Prof. Agus’ presentation, WR I UMSU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arifin Gultom, M.Hum, again reminded the lecturers not to close themselves to continue learning AIK and Technology.
“Everything Prof. Agus said earlier is the main capital to convey AIK to our students. To lecturers, let us deepen our AIK knowledge and knowledge,” said Prof. Arifin in closing the public lecture.
Also present were BPH UMSU, Vice-Rectors, Deans of Faculties throughout UMSU, 84 AIK lecturers, and students.
