Students from the University of Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) have achieved first, and third place in the prestigious 22nd Open Karate Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from June 23 to 25, 2023.
The remarkable achievement was made by Nasywa Maydina Pulungan, who secured the first-place title in the Kumite Female category, and Siti Hardiyanti, who claimed the third-place title in the same category. This report was received from Kuala Lumpur on Monday, June 26.
Nasywa Maydina Pulungan is a student of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, while Siti Hardiyanti is currently enrolled in the Faculty of Education. Both of them have successfully brought pride to UMSU on the international stage through their outstanding performances in a highly competitive tournament.
Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, the Rector of UMSU, expressed his appreciation and congratulations for the student’s achievement at the international championship in Malaysia. “Alhamdulillah, congratulations to Nasywa and Siti for their successful international recognition and bringing honor to UMSU,” he said.
He explained that the international achievements of the students are a source of pride that can motivate and inspire other students. Such accomplishments result from dedicated training, sincere effort, and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes.
On this occasion, the Rector reminded the students not to be complacent, as maintaining success is much more challenging than attaining it. Moreover, future competition will undoubtedly be tougher.
“Therefore, continue to practice and maintain discipline in the hope of achieving even higher levels of success in the future,” expressed the Rector.
Meanwhile, Dr. Radiman, SE, MSi, the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau, who accompanied the students as an official, revealed that the 22nd Open Karate Championship Malaysia was participated in by 200 athletes from seven countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Indonesia. This indicates that the competition was highly prestigious and fiercely competitive, as the athletes vied intensely against each other.
