Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) welcomed the visit and hospitality of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau in the context of studying the establishment of the UMRI medical education study program, Monday (23/1) at the UMSU Rectorate Building Jl. Muchtar Basri, No. 3 Medan.
UMRI Rector, represented by Deputy Rector II UMRI Dr. H. Rasyad Zein, MM, said he wanted to study with UMSU.
“We are here to learn and gain experience. Teach us how hard it is ups and downs for UMSU to be able to establish a Faculty of Medicine. We should be able to do that too,” he hoped.
Hearing this, the Rector of UMSU, Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, in his remarks, recounted the foundation for the founding of the UMSU Faculty of Medicine (FK), which had been compiled in the 2018-2033 road map. He also said that the UMSU Faculty of Medicine was progressing because governance was carried out according to regulations.
“After we opened the UMSU FK, many students did not immediately study at the UMSU FK. So our challenge was to prepare infrastructure and human resources,” he said.
Agussani also shared the story that the existence of the UMSU FK went through a long process. He said that the problems with the UMSU FK at the beginning of its establishment were inseparable from governance, then improvements were made.
“Alhamdulillah, in 2022; we will get permission to open a biomedical master study program. Now we are opening a KKLP (Primary Service Family Medicine) specialist study program,” said Agussani.
Agussani hopes that with collaboration and shared commitment, UMRI can establish a Faculty of Medicine and open student admissions in 2023/2024.
“Hopefully, UMRI will be Muhammadiyah’s front guard in Riau and the Riau Archipelago. Therefore, good synergy will be increasingly strengthened, God willing, the UMRI FK will be successfully established,” concluded Agussani. On this occasion, the deputy Rector of UMRI and his staff had the opportunity to visit UMSU Radio, UMSU Faculty of Medicine, and other facilities.
