A total of 20 international students, accompanied by the Indonesian Language Institute for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) UMSU, conducted a tour of several cultural sites in Medan City. The activity was held on Saturday (2/17).
This annual agenda aims to introduce tourist attractions, value systems, social systems, cultural products, and their implications for speech acts around the city of Medan to students.
The students who participated in this activity came from Yemen, Cambodia, and Thailand. They are international students who are studying at UMSU. Currently, around 46 international students are studying at UMSU. This indicates that the popularity of UMSU is increasingly globalized due to the high interest of international students in completing their education at UMSU.
“This tourism is vital for BIPA learners related to survival interests in foreign countries,” said the head of BIPA UMSU, Dr. Cut Novita Srikandi, M.Hum.
I visited Maimun Palace, Great Mosque, Kesawan Square, Plantation Museum, UMSU Falak Science Observatory, and Great Mosque. I also visited the Petisah traditional market to practice buying and selling interactions with traditional traders.
Also accompanying the students in this activity was the Head of BIPA, Dr. Cut Novita Srikandi, M.Hum, with the secretary, Dr. Tengku Winona Emelia, M.Hum, and other BIPA teams.
