A total of 12 students from Gwangju, South Korea, on the Students Exchange Korea and Indonesia program visited UMSU. Their arrival was warmly welcomed in a series of events entitled ‘Indonesia & Korea Gen Z Cultural Exchange’ held on Monday (26/2) at the UMSU Auditorium on Muchtar Basri Street No.3 Medan.
The Indonesia & Korea, Gen Z Cultural Exchange event, was wrapped with various creative and cultural performances. Dance and vocal group performances were given by students from South Korea, and exchange students from North Sumatra gave traditional dance performances.
Previously, 12 North Sumatra students, 4 UMSU students, 4 UINSU students, and 4 USU students had left for Gwangju, South Korea, implementing this program at the end of 2023.
The group from South Korea, accompanied by the Medan City Government’s foreign cooperation team, was welcomed directly by UMSU Rector Prof. Dr. Agussani, MAP, and WR III Dr. Rudianto, M.Si.
WR III Dr. Rudianto greeted all students with Korean ‘annyeong haseyo’ and was greeted royally by the participants.
“I am proud today to meet with exchange students from Korea. Hopefully, we can collaborate and increase the network between Korean and Indonesian students,” said Dr. Rudianto.
Representing the Rector of UMSU, WR III briefly explained that UMSU is an excellent accredited campus in North Sumatra and is internationally recognized. A campus that appreciates student creativity and has a variety of international activities, one of which is foreign student exchanges and scholarships.
Then, in her speech, Miss Kim Minsu, Director of Gwangju International Center, introduced that Gwangju International Center is a non-profit organization promoting Korean culture.
“We from Gwangju International Center would like to thank UMSU and the Medan city government for successfully implementing this exchange program,” said Miss Kim.
She believes this program can benefit Gwangju and Medan city by building connections and collaborations through the roles of students from both countries.
“I am very interested in the city of Medan and would like to come again to Medan. The people are delicious, and I love the coffee,” said Miss Kim Minsum, closing her speech.
Then, Drs. Lilik M.AP, Head of the Medan City Cooperation Section, appreciated the welcome and cultural activities organized by UMSU. He hopes UMSU will continue to be a superior campus and educate the nation in the future.
“We are very honored and did not expect this activity to occur in such a way. Hopefully, UMSU can participate in other programs and activities in the future, not just exchanges to Korea,” hoped Drs. Lilik.
Students from Korea also broadcast on UMSU FM radio to tell their experiences while in Medan and coming to UMSU. They admitted they were enthusiastic and happy to be extraordinarily welcomed by UMSU students and leaders.
Faculty leaders, heads of bureaus, PMM students, and international students at UMSU were also present.
